Cop shoots cop in foot

A police constable was shot in the left foot by his colleague when a drug suspect unleashed his bad dog during his arrest on Sunday night.

PCs Ramadin and Johnson, attached to the Princes Town Police Station, were on patrol along the Naparima/Mayaro Road, Palmyra, when they spotted the man and his Rottweiler dog.

The officers searched the man and found several packets of cocaine in his pockets.

Police said as the officers were about to handcuff the suspect, he let the dog loose. Johnson pulled his service revolver and threatened to shoot the animal, but its owner pushed the officer, investigators said.

Johnson's gun accidentally went off, hitting Ramadin in the foot, the Express was told.

Guns, ammo found again
Night-time search at St Joseph Police Station

MORE GUNS and ammunition have been discovered at the St Joseph Police Station.

Despite two comprehensive searches conducted at the station on previous occasions, officers remain baffled as to how two home-made shotguns and over 300 rounds of assorted ammunition ended up within the precincts of the station on Wednesday night.

The find was made around 8.30 p.m. by Deputy Commissioner of Police Gilbert Reyes and a junior officer following information that illegal arms and ammunition were being kept in the station.

Six policemen facing charges

SIX police officers are expected to appear before magistrates today charged with offences arising out of separate incidents.

In the first incident, a constable attached to the Maracas/St Joseph Police Station with five years service will appear before a Tunapuna magistrate charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

The officer is alleged to have killed 66-year-old Elizabeth Annan on November 20 last year.

Annan of Pepper Village, Maracas, St Joseph, was struck when a Nissan AD Wagon slammed into her back as she walked along a pavement on La Grind Road towards the Maracas Recreation Ground.

Meanwhile, two officers were remanded in custody when they appeared before a Justice of the Peace yesterday afternoon charged with using obscene language and assault occasioning bodily harm.

PCs Nicholson and Lela appeared in the Port of Spain Magistrates' Court and were granted bail.

They are expected to appear before an Arima magistrate today where they will be joined by three of their colleagues who were also allegedly involved in a fracas which occurred a few weeks ago involving a Special Reserve Police officer at the Maloney Police Post.

The latter three officers are expected to be charged with perverting the course of justice by entering false information in a station diary.

'Stolen gun' recovered

A police inspector working with a special unit in the service is now under investigation, after reporting that he was attacked by thieves while driving home and robbed of court documents and his service revolver.

The internal investigation was launched after the "stolen" gun was taken to police headquarters by a Marabella businessman who said he found it at a bar.

The officer had reported that while driving home in South Trinidad last month, when he was forced to stop along a lonely stretch of a canefield road after a car pulled across the path of his vehicle.

The officer said the men stole his gun and ammunition, personal identification documents, and a briefcase containing documents related to cases in which he was involved.

Detectives were searching for two suspects until the gun taken in by the businessman was traced back to the inspector.
